LENOVO Y700 FHD REVIEW
Dimentions: 1.02 x 15.24 x 10.91 in
DESIGN & BUILD QUALITY
The top of the laptop is constructed of a black brushed aluminum which I believe gives it a high quality feel and touch. The laptop features two thick aluminum speaker grilles which are located on both sides of the hinges and the keyboard has a black finish with a soft touch.
Weight & dimensions
The laptop weighs in at 5.7 pounds and it’s dimensions are 15.2 x 10.9 x 1 inch which makes it lighter then some of the more expensive gaming laptops on the market.
SPECS & FUNCTIONS
The Lenovo Y700 is designed with the purpose of playing pc games on the go and it handles it real well with pretty impressive specs for the price. The Y700 has an advanced 6th generation Intel Quad Core I7 processor, 1 TB 5400 rpm hard drive and 8 GB DDR4 SDRAM which is borderline sufficient for pc gaming.
It comes equipped with a GeForce GTX 960m 4 GB graphic card which is manufactured by a NVidia who has become a top choice in the gaming world. During gameplay the graphic card provided crisp visuals and stunning eye-pleasing landscapes.
The Lenovo ideapad y700 has a 15 inch 1920 x 1080 pixel high definition display with IPS Anti-Glare which compliments the graphics card and works hand in hand to provide the best possible visual gaming experience. The Lenovo Y700’s display brought out the brightness of every color during gameplay and while watching a movie.
Lenovo has been collabarating with JBL and it continues to make their laptops shine in the audio department. The Lenovo Y700 is eqipped with a pair of JBL speakers as well as a bottom-mounted subwoofer. During use the speakers gave off a balanced and clear audio sound.
The laptop comes with Dolby software which has five audio settings specific to Lenovo laptops and they are Dynamic, Music,Movie, Gaming as well as voice.
The best way to test audio would be to listen to some bass intensive Hip Hop and I did just that. At 65 percent the music was extremely ear pleasing but when raised to maximum volume it became mind shattering and somewhat distored. As for gameplay audio I could here very detail from a enemy slowly approaching around a corner to sound nerve shattering explosion.
There are many tools in a graphic designers tool box and it’s important that they intergrate with one another. Youtr central tool is your computer and you want your other electronic tools to coexist with it. The Y700 has two USB 3.0 ports to hook up a mouse and a graphic design drawing tablet. The Lenovo Y700 has a HDMI which allows for pluging into a High Definition LCD, an expanding Gigabit Ethernet and a secure lock slot along side the right. On the left side of the laptop is a USB 2.0 port, a 4 in 1 card reader for removable storage which is important for projects on the go, a combination headphone/microphone jack which is pretty standard in laptops and Lenovo’s proprietary DC adapter port.
Battery life is really important especially if your designing on the go or while out in about and there are no outlets around. Compare to other laptops such as the Alienware 15’s which last about 6 hours and the Dell Inspiron 15 lasting about almost 7 hours the Y700 comes in at a little over 4 hours which is not to impressive.
IT’S ALL IN THE PERFORMANCE
When it’s all said and done how well is performs determines whether it will hold up against some of the more intensive design projects. The Lenovo Y700 is built to handle video editing, rendering video, 3d modeling, large digital and print projects thanks to it’s 2.6 GHZ Intel Icore i7-6700 processor, 16gb of ram, 1TB hard drive which is plenty room for large design files as well as the star a Nvidia GTX 960 4GB graphic card. This laptop was designed for gaming and the specs are perfect for intensive graphic design projects!
